Dear Families,
It's been a wonderful first few weeks of learning! The students are very excited to have access to iPad technology, alongside improved WIFI as of last week, to really bring learning at Andamooka Primary into the 21st Century. Watch this space for flipped learning, online learning journals, and much more.
The teachers met with Lara Lukich and Travis Hague last week, to discuss the involvement of our students in the Minnie Berrington project this year. It will be a fantastic opportunity for our students to learn about the film-making process, as well as the life of such an inspirational Andamookan, in a real life context.
Swimming lessons were a huge success! We appreciate the opportunity to use the Roxbylink pool, and give our sincere thanks to Roxby Downs Area School for including us in their swimming lesson planning this year.
I was truly impressed by the calibre of applications for this year's Student Leaders. Please make sure you join us for a short assembly in front of the Library at 8:30am on Monday, 24th February, when I will announce our Student Leaders for 2020. I look forward to working alongside these individuals to raise the student voice in our school.
Kind regards,
Morwenna Stanford
Principal
Financial reminders
School fees are now due. All parents should have received their school fees letter. Please see Anne in the office if you would like to make a payment arrangement.
All payments that you need to make to the school must be paid to Anne, either by cash or credit card.
If Anne is away, there are envelopes on the front desk: please fill in payment details on the envelopes, and place in the black padlocked box in the front office.
Payments can also be made directly into the school bank account. Please see Anne if you require these details.
Student reminders
If students are late to school, or need to leave early, they need to be signed in and out. There are three Movement Logs in the front office: one for visitors and contractors, one for staff, and one for students.
The students in the R-2 class need to be signed in by a parent/caregiver.
The students in the 3-6 class can sign themselves in.
Please remember to notify the school if your child is away, and the reason for their absence. This can be done on the SchoolZine App, or by calling the school and leaving a message. If you are alerting the school for a planned absence, your child's diary is also a good way to let the school know.
The students need to come to school each day with a broad-brimmed or bucket hat, and water bottle. Caps do not offer enough sun protection, and will be considered 'No Hat, No Play.' Please mark all items clearly with your childs name.
Please ensure you are checking lost property regularly, as we can't keep items indefinitely, and unnamed items will be donated to the Op Shop at the end of each School Term.
This term we are learning about zoo animals. We did a learning activity using a matching puzzle, which encouraged the children to investigate different animals and recognise the difference between big and small.
This week the Pre-schoolers made play dough with Mel.
Making play dough introduces language and concepts such as:
Measuring - full, half, empty, more, less, a little bit, a lot, big or small.
Number - counting, adding, (e.g. do we need one cup or two cups of flour etc)
Sequencing - following instructional steps.
The Junior Primary children have been busy all this week attending swimming lessons at the Roxby Downs pool. I asked them to share how they felt about swimming.
Julian- “I don’t like swimming because it’s cold. I really like it when it’s a hot day and I want to stay under the water. Then I really like swimming.”
Alicia- “At swimming we do sinky toys and we do back stroke and then we go through the hoop.”
Areanna- “I like going underwater and blowing bubbles. Rolling off the mat was so much fun.”
Harrison- “I get to go underwater and swim fast. I wish I could swim underwater at the deep end.”
Krystal- “I went in the pool and I liked it. It was so much fun!”
Kaitlyn- “I like going through the hoop and I like the horse one.”
Indyanna- “I liked rolling off the board and being pulled by the rope fast.”
Dominic- “I like going under the water and catching the sinky toys.
Areanna, Kaitlyn and Harrison enjoying their Read Write Inc. time with Nancy, writing their daily sound on the carpet.
“OO poo at the zoo”
Indyanna and Dominic have been doing an awesome job with their learning and writing!!
