Dear Families,
I wish to extend warm congratulations to our new student leaders for 2020!
School captains: Lily Kemenyvary and Abbey Bode.
Vice Captains: Summer Johnson and Riley Crompton.
I know our leaders will do themselves and Andamooka Primary proud.
We investigated and looked at our emotions. I asked Cristofer and Thomas to choose two emotions.
Cristofer chose sad and angry. “I feel sad when I fall out of bed”.
“I feel angry when I don’t want to do something”.
Thomas chose happy and very happy. “I feel happy when mum comes at home time”.
“I was very happy when I got to eat my batman birthday cake”.
Preschool- Junior Primary news
Did you know that last Wednesday the 26th of February was National Tell A Fairy Tale Day? Our class celebrated by brainstorming a list of all the Fairy Tales that we are familiar with and then we shared a variety of Fairy Tales as a group. We agreed that Fairy tales are pretend stories that often have characters in them that include people, animals and creatures. They often have kings, queens, princes, princesses, witches, and fairies in them and have an element of magic. I asked the children to choose their favourite Fairy Tale and to give a reason why. These are their responses:
Cristofer- “The Three Bears because there is bears”.
Thomas- “Three scary bears”.
Dominic- “The Three Little Pigs are my favourite little pigs. That wolf is so tricky!”
Indyanna- “Beauty and the Beast Beast is a good story because Beauty is so nice and beautiful.”
Areanna- “My favourite is Rapunzel because her hair was long and she is beautiful.”
Harrison- “Goldilocks and the Three Bears is the best one because it got some bears in it.”
Kaitlyn- “I like The Little Mermaid because I like mermaids and they have pretty tails.”
Krystal- “Beauty and the Beast is my favourite because I have watched it and Beauty falls in love with Beast.”
Julian- “I like Hansel and Gretel because there is a gingerbread house with lots of lollies on it.”
Over the past couple of weeks, students in the Primary class have been learning about the states and territories of Australia and what makes them unique. They have also been discovering how a place’s climate zone impacts people’s lifestyle decisions.
Whole School Swimming Week Photos
In week 4 the whole school has been enjoying swimming lessons at the Roxby Downs Pool. They learnt survival skills and how to be safe when they are around water. The bus trips included some wonderful singing and Nancy ensured that we got there safely. What a fun, but very tiring week!
Wellbeing Morning with Nancy and Mel
Today both classes combined for a morning of fun games, wellbeing and teamwork. We played a variety of games that involved being cooperative, persistent and resilient, including no hands cup stacking, balloon races and no hands pasta threading! We shared the story ‘Have You Filled A Bucket Today?’ by Carol McCloud and discussed how being kind and polite, giving compliments, being friendly and helpful can contribute to feeling positive and ‘filling ours and other peoples buckets’.
Julian- “I liked writing letters to people to fill up their buckets.”
Harrison- “It was hard to get the noodles on the stick because they kept going in my mouth.”
Areanna- “I liked to pick up the noodles on the table.”
Krystal- “Pushing the cup on my forehead with Abbey was fun because it got to the top.”
Kaitlyn- “The balloon race was a bit hard and easy too. The wind blew it away.””
Indyanna- “I liked drawing all the things I like on my puzzle.”
Dominic- “The balloon race was so much fun.”
Abbee – “This morning was very fun and different.”
Lily – “It helped improve my wellbeing skills and it was fun.”
Summer – “It was fun working in Mel’s class with the R-2’s.”
Joey – “I felt nervous when we were stacking the cups.”
Maddy – “It was exciting and I enjoyed the spaghetti/pasta challenge.”
Jake – “I felt silly doing the spaghetti/pasta challenge.”
Riley – “Communication is the key with team work.”
Sam – “I was excited.”
Xavier – “The balloon race was really hard but fun and everyone was cheering.”
Bodie – “I was happy with the balloons.”
Abbey – “I liked how we stacked the cups and all worked as a team. Krystal and I put the last cup on top.”
