Dear Families,
We made it! Last day of term for Term 1, 2020. Time to relax, enjoy your Easter break, and recharge as a family. We hope you all have a lovely, albeit different, holiday break.
This week, school staff have been working tirelessly to prepare for learning in Term 2. There are a few things I wish to bring to your attention: Firstly, if your child has not completed the work set for Week 10, please don’t worry about that now. I strongly encourage each of you – parents and children alike – to have a proper break! Learning will continue after the holidays.
Today, a pack of information will be dropped to the post office for each family. Please ensure you read the contents at your convenience.
School work – Learning at Home
If your child is Learning at Home next term, they will receive their work each Monday morning to complete that week. The teacher/SSO who drops off their work will also pick up work from the previous week. As such, each child will have two books to complete their work in.
Students in the Junior Primary class will receive a USB thumb-drive each week, to access demonstration videos and other digital instructions. Please ensure the thumb-drive is returned with their school work each Monday, for Mel to load new information for the following week. Consequently, two thumb-drives will be allocated for each Junior Primary student. Students will also receive paper packs and manipulatives.
Students in the Primary class will initially receive their school work in the same manner as Week 10’s work, via email and paper packs. As the term progresses, we are going to move towards online learning as far as internet speed and data capabilities allow.
At the start of Term 2, you will receive more information.
School work – Learning on Site
If your child is Learning on Site next term, they will receive the same work as those who are Learning at Home. Please also be aware that students who are physically at school will be grouped together in one class, practising social distancing as far as practicable in a school setting, to allow teachers time to facilitate Learning at Home as well.
Attendance
It is a requirement that the school track attendance next term, whether students are Learning at Home or Learning on Site. We are asking families to utilise the School Zine App to communicate their child’s attendance to learning, if they are not physically at school.
- If your child is Learning at Home
Please open the School Zine App, go into the Contact Us section, and in the Message section please type in ‘Learning at Home.’
- If your child is unwell
Please enter your child’s absence in the Absentee section.
- If your child is not Learning at Home that day for family reasons
Please enter your child’s absence in the Absentee section.
If you have any issues entering the information on the School Zine App each day, please communicate your child’s attendance/absence via text to Anne’s phone, 0428 821 858.
Please be aware, if your child’s attendance/absence is not communicated by 9am each school day, Anne will call you to record your child’s attendance/absence as we have a duty of care for your child unless we are informed otherwise. If Anne is not able to contact you, your child will be marked as ‘unexplained absence’ until you communicate with Anne.
Communication during School Holidays
We know that you may have many questions regarding next term, or may just need reassurance that your child will still be learning – it will just look a little different. If you have any urgent questions, please email or text me (morwenna.stanford363@schools.sa.edu.au or 0427 529 145) and I will get back to you/pass the message on to the teachers.
If you wish to communicate with your child’s teacher directly, please be aware they will return your emails in Week 2 of the holidays.
School Devices at Home – User Agreement and Arrangements
If you have indicated your child does not have access to a laptop or PC at home, the school will make one available to your child if it will assist their learning. Students in the Junior Primary class will require access to a laptop or PC, as accessing the digital files Mel is creating is critical for your child’s learning. Students in the Primary class simply need access to an appropriate screen at this stage, to view Power Point presentations and open/send emails.
If you need IT assistance or support, please contact Anne. She is our IT support person on site.
There is a user agreement associated with borrowing a school device for use at home. When we organise for the laptops/PCs to go home, in either Week 2 of the holidays or Week 1 of Term 2, you will be required to sign the agreement. For your information, I have included a copy of the user agreement in the information pack sent to families for you to peruse. Again, please contact me if you have any concerns or questions. Anne will contact you to arrange collection/drop off of devices.
Library Service for Students
Whilst the library is closed to public users, on the advice of the government, it will be open for student use in Term 2, in a different capacity.
Towards the end of each week, Nancy will contact each student to see how they are enjoying the books they have borrowed and ask if they have any requests for new books the following Monday. Nancy will then put together a little pack of books for each student, which will be delivered with their school work each Monday. We ask that you put out any books to be returned with the student’s work to be collected, and the teacher/SSO will return them to the library for you.
I hope this information is useful as we head into the holidays. Have a safe and happy break, and I look forward to seeing your happy faces – in some capacity – next term!
Reminder
Term 2 commences Monday 27th April.
Have a relaxing break! It is well and truly deserved by each and every one of you.
Warm regards,
Morwenna Stanford
Principal
